How can we balance deadlines in year-end fundraising?

  • It’s okay to say ‘no’ and revisit a conversation in the New Year. Be intentional and find a concrete time and date to follow-up.

  • Practice self-care by taking time for yourself. You can try a new activity or revisiting a hobby.

What are the prospects of fundraising in the new year with news on the shaky economy?

  • Based on patterns and trends, it seems like the trend will continue with donors reluctant to commit to multi-year pledges and fulfillment. It will take time and patience.

When should you start year-end appeals, considering the holiday season?

  • It is crucial to not start too soon because it will overwhelm donors.

  • It is important to be present with your donors. Take the time to cultivate donors.

  • Each conversation does not need to be about money. Welcome your donors to the fall or the holidays.

  • Pay attention to your data management and be sure your gifts are acknowledged before you make the next ask.

  • Thank without re-soliciting in a thank you note. Hold back on the “give” call-to-action and just thank your donors.
